Ahhh, the most wonderful time of the year is almost upon us! I’m hearing Mariah Carey’s whistle notes the carol of the bells already and I know ‘tis the season to look extra cute. Yes, that applies even if you’re “just” visiting family over the holidays.

And with that in mind, I want to tell you about some super easy holiday hairstyles you can try. By that I mean you won’t have to spend hours perfecting your do, nor do you need a certain level of skill to achieve dreamy locks.

Sounds good? Let’s get into it. 

The Blowout

C’mon now, did you really think we could avoid mentioning this fabulous Christmas hairstyle option? The blowout is always at the top of my list when I think of easy hairstyles that only need minimal amounts of effort for flawless results. 

But hey, I know many of you might struggle with your hair not holding curl, or those luscious locks not being defined, or how in the world are you supposed to hold your brush and dryer at the same time? Ugh, it can be so frustrating, I know! So, let me introduce you to the heatless blowout. 

Call it what you will – the sock method, the curling rods method – the principle is the same. Split your hair into 2-3 sections, wrap around the rod/sock (always away from your face), secure with an elastic, and let it sit!

Pro tip: For best results, keep your hair like this overnight or for a couple of hours. Apply hairspray and gently comb with fingers or a wide-tooth comb!

The Bun(s)

Okay, I get it – you might be the one organizing your Christmas party or are otherwise engaged in it, and just need your hair out of your face. Still, that’s no reason to not look absolutely gorgeous, and that’s why women invented the bun.

And the best part about this hairstyle is that it comes in so many variations – from classic, timeless, and elevated to fun and funky.

So, if you’re interested in something classic, try the low bun hairstyle – it’s sleek, stylish and easy to zhuzh up with a few braids or twists. But if you want something fun? I’m a big fan of space buns, but also adding accessories like clips, colorful scrunchies, or hairpins!

The Half-Up

What if you don’t really like your hair slicked back in a bun or a pony? No worries, I have just the thing for you. As far as creative hairstyles go, any half-up hairstyle is often a favorite. Why? Because it’s oh so simple to do and accessorize if you’re feeling extra festive.

And the variations? Oh, they’re endless! You can do a mini bun, a ponytail, a braid, a twist, and add a bow, a clip, a bandana, or even a candy cane. That last part would probably be my daughter’s pick, but you get what I mean.

The Bubble Pony

Okay, hear me out – I know you like a ponytail as much as the next person. They’re easy, look chic, and can be fun too (don’t say you’re not lovin’ the swing). But you can also transform this simple style into something event-worthy, so think of the bubble pony hairstyle as your new staple with a twist.

I love this style because it can always add a bit of spice to any look. Just grab a few hair ties, section your pony however you like, tug a little to get that volume – and you’re all done. The bubble pony is great for accessorizing too, but my favorite way to add something to it is to curl my hair with a thin barrel curler. 

Tight curls will add texture like no other and make you the talk of the town. 

The Braid(s)

And finally, let’s talk about another easy crowd favorite – the braids. Now, I know what you might be thinking: “Braids aren’t as easy as people make them out to be,” but I must disagree. I understand that it’s hard to braid your own hair because sometimes it feels like your hands simply do not work that way. 

But all you need is practice! Thankfully, you have plenty of time to perfect your craft until the holidays roll around, so take it one day at a time.

Pro tip: Start small so your hands get used to the motion. Take one small section of hair and braid it in different ways. Once you’re confident with that, try making multiple braids or braiding your whole hair. You can do it!
